GAME UPDATE: Structural changes

Greetings, Hellions!

The mod team has decided over the coming month, we'll be transitioning the game into a structured musebox format. Little Hades has seen a considerable slow-down over the past few months, and we feel the best way to address that while keeping the setting open to you all and anyone who may be interested in joining us is to switch to this more relaxed style of play.

Some of the things that'll be changing:

Activity check will be changed over to a check-in system and hellbucks will be eliminated (all HB rewards will be made available to player whims!)
App requirements will be changed
Community service assignments will be eliminated

What this means for you right now: We're giving you all a freebie month with AC while we work out the finer details of this transition. AC will not be required this month.

hi there, hellions. so, after a long time trying and failing to get my motivation up, I've decided it's time for me to drop Jason, and by extension, the game. it's been an incredibly fun run — over a year! — and I hope to come back someday, but for now, it's just not in the cards.

I'm patina or Annys53 on plurk and I'm completely new here. I played Dr. Orpheus and The Gentleman With the Thistledown Hair on the open thread, but sadly, I'm not bringing those. Anyhow, Merton here's from the old, cheesy show Big Wolf on Campus and he's in Limbo because of a technicality and also for raising the dead, interfering with a Reaper and getting a bunch of werewolves killed. He's not going to be too happy about being Reaped while trying to save his friend from a succubus.

Permissions post is here. Merton has a bad habit of compulsively referencing movies, but I don't want to break 4th wall for anyone's character without permission.

I do have a setting question too: Since newbies don't get phones, is there any free access to the internet at all available for Limbo residents?

Hiatus!

So, life's going to be a lot busier than usual for the next few weeks. On top of trying to get to the gym regularly to improve my health, and having a little more responsibility at work, and running a tabletop campaign for the first time in like 20 years (which has also become an excuse for a weekly tea party), my grandfather's sick, so I need to be at his house way more often to try to help him with things, the LGBTQ group I kind of play den mother to is going to try meeting every week for a while to work on arts and crafts for our booth at Pride, this year, and at the end of the month I'm taking my little sister on an adventure to Ireland.

I don't plan on going full silent, tagwise, until we leave for overseas, but I cannot guarantee I'm gonna be with it enough to tag regularly, and I don't wanna stress myself (more) about worrying over AC even if it's easy to make, usually.

So, hiatus declared until like... June 8th, let's say. That'll give me a couple days to rest, after we get back, and hopefully by then grandpa will be feeling better, too.

I used to lead such a quiet life. I don't know what I've gone and done to myself. X-D

Greetings, hellions! May has arrived, and that means... well, a bunch of things.

First, a couple reminders: As of today, applications are open indefinitely, and the time ratio in-game has changed to 1:1. This means we've ICly skipped a few months ahead from November to May. This will not impact the setting or the characters — even if your character's been tallying off days in Hell on the wall, they won't notice the change. It's just one of those weird Hell things.

Second, the Fourth Wall Event technically ended yesterday with the safe return of 99% of the living (thanks, ~~Obama~~ Brimstone!), but we encourage you all to keep playing in it and backtag to your heart's desire! We're thrilled by the response so far and hope you're all enjoying yourselves.

Third, the end of the Fourth Wall Event means our summer plot has officially begun! We're now accepting applications from living characters — the mini-app for those characters, who will be allowed in temporarily through August, is now available on our Applications page. More plot details will be revealed both ICly and OOCly as the month goes on.

Fourth and finally, the mod team would like to revisit the question of CRAUs we polled you all about back in February. Results at the time were in favor of not allowing CRAU characters into the game; after discussion among the mods, we've come to a few conclusions about the potential benefits of opening our game up to that population: 1) We think it will draw even more fresh blood into Little Hades, which is our biggest goal for the summer plot; 2) We would like to be seen as a game that's flexible in the opportunities for shenanigans we provide; 3) We want to recognize the energy players put into developing their characters over time in other games and give them the chance to continue on with that in our setting, if they'd like.

That said, we'll be posting a new poll addressing this later in the week. Please take some time to think about it and come to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Hello denizens of Little Hades! I'm Duckie and with me I bring you this loser of a former punk rocker, Todd Brotzman. He's from the newest incarnation of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency that just wrapped airing on BBC America a few months ago, although you can pick it up other places, like Netflix, if you're outside the US.

Given his history of being kind of an asshole for a while before meeting Dirk and company, and still being a lot of temper crammed into one tiny dude afterward (although at least he's gone back to aiming to be the honest, decent guy he used to be years ago), he's gonna be a Limbo case for a while. Jury is out, quite literally, on which way his sentence will go. Playing him in game and the joy of the utterly random CR that it will bring should have a lot to do with how that swings whenever I decide to do his trial. With that being said, I am game for anything. I love it all. Positive CR, negative CR, completely unexpected weirdness. In canon, he actuallys utters the phrase "when a kitten went off and set off a shark explosion*" with a completely straight face. There's very, very little that's off the table.

I've got no real plans for him long term, although he'll be keen to get his guitar back and I think starting up a Hell!band would be kind of cool? So. There's that. Well that and whatever weird cases he gets up to with Dirk since they're best friends and Todd couldn't escape that whacky ball of sunshine if he tried.

Fourth Wall Week

The Rundown

It's the most wonderful time of the year, hellions, and Brimstone wants you to go out and celebrate! Find the raunchiest costume you can and demand treats from strangers under the threat of tricksy consequences! Throw toilet paper on someone's house! Smash some pumpkins!

No, really. Do these things or face dire consequences. Brimstone agents will be on the prowl, keeping an eye out for anyone refusing to celebrate; characters caught out of costume will be punished!

Then, during Halloween night, an earthquake will rock its way through Little Hades and a few of the neighboring towns. This quake is the result of the twice-stolen maw technology falling into The Wrong Hands — someone's been playing with it, but we're not sure who. The only thing that's certain is the maws are reacting badly to whatever it is that's going on; they've opened of their own accord and seem to be stuck that way, allowing both animals and people to slip through from the living worlds.

The end of the Fourth Wall event will come when Brimstone manages to close the maws back up; some living characters will make it out in time, but some may get stuck. Unnnfortunately, closing the maws doesn't mean they're going to stay closed; whatever happened that caused the quake has seriously damaged the maw mechanics, and now they're opening and closing all on their own, swallowing more and more of the living and spitting them out in Hell. Specifically, in Little Hades.

This event will run from April 25th - 30th and will serve as the kickoff for our summer-long plot.

Hey there, hellcats and hellkittens! Today, we come bearing news about some major game updates, as well as a few reminders about existing game mechanics. We wrapped them up all nice, and we hope you like them.

💀 TIME CHANGE: As of May 1st, the game will be switching from 2:1 time to 1:1 time.

💀 APP CYCLES: ...are being eliminated! In May, we'll be moving from monthly apps to open apps.

💀 ACTIVITY CHECK: We know a lot of you feel stressed out during That Time of The Month, which is why we've clarified a couple things on the Activity Check page (regarding the bonus hellbucks system implemented a few months ago, as well as noting that inbox threads can be counted) and would like to remind everyone that you can, in fact, use Google Sheets to count your activity and submit it to us that way. Something like this would work fine as a convenient thread tracker layout, but feel free to make it look however you want—so long as we get a link and how many HB the thread is worth.

💀 MOD TEAM UPDATE: In an effort to encourage increased player-mod interaction (ask us your questions! bring us your wicked ideas!), we would like to announce the new Public Face™ of our mod team: Heather, player of Josh Lyman & Saul Goodman. As always, please feel free to approach us on any of our available platforms—we can be reached via e-mail, Plurk, and the Mod Contact post. In addition to that, Heather is now available to answer questions and address concerns one-on-one via Plurk or PM.

And now—drumroll, please—the most exciting thing of all:

💀 HELLOWEEN: At the end of this month, Little Hades will be hosting its first Fourth Wall event (slash One Year Birthday Hellebration), during which living characters will be welcomed to the game. This will kickoff a summer-long plot, spanning May to August.

Living characters will be accepted to the game for the duration of the plot.

Yes, you read that right! The living, the breathing, the opposite of you, you poor dead sucker. They're coming. Watch out.

Stay tuned for more updates; a post detailing the upcoming Fourth Wall will be posted tomorrow, and info about Phase One of the plot will go live as we inch closer to the end of the month.

A final note: Player involvement in Little Hades is integral to the game's continued existence. We know it's been a rough few months with so many drops affecting so much CR, but we hope that injecting some life into the game for the summer will help get those creative, eager juices flowing! Looking forward to plotting with you, hellions!

You may recognize his name from such mistakes as that universally panned movie with Jim Carrey or that TV version of him who manages to asphyxiate people by accident somehow. I’m taking this version of The Riddler straight from the DC Reboot, where he’s been made a ginger and acts more like an edgy teenager on a power trip than ever before!

'Sup, Hadiesians. Just dropping in a quick apology for kind of disappearing so soon after app'ing Jesse in. March turned out to be a ballbag of a month, which was capped by a major flooding crisis that hit my area last week due to category 4 cyclones. On top of that, I'm in the process of dealing with a health scare that I'm currently awaiting tests for. March (and the beginning of April, so far) has been A Month. :c

However! I'm going to aim to get on top of my game with LH through the rest of April. Hi everyone! I'm Aust and I am new at Lil Hades! I have a plurk you can add me at europhilia. I live in the capital of Australia and travel a lot for my partner's job so I am around at odd hours.

I am bringing Will Graham from the end of NBC's Hannibal, straight to hell. He tried to be a normal good guy but lately he did some pretty bad shit so after some time alone in Limbo he is finally being placed "downstairs". Normally he solves crimes by empathizing with serial killers so I am sure Hell will be a laugh and a half. I am heaps excited to bounce him off anyone and everyone so let's work out some reasons to interact!

So, as at least some of you know I've been dealing with some nasty medical challenges as of late ranging from actual medical problems to loss of insurance. While I just got my insurance sorted out (with what seems to be a better deal than before!) I'm still fighting with other medical problems. As such, I'm dropping good ol' Johnny boy and Jinx. I really don't want to do it, but it's not fair to anyone how much I'm missing activity and how I keep pushing along by the skin of my teeth. I do hope to bring them back when I've got my ducks in a row and have things back in equilibrium.

But what about Morticia, you ask? I decided that I'd keep the zany housemom around. With only one character I can devote my available time to her and be active and have crazy adventures! So for Morticia, consider this a Welcome Back plotting post!

I've missed a lot, so if you wanted to handwave time with Morticia feel free to let me know what!

Due to some... emotional crap that is lingering around my soul, I am going to be taking a break from tags for a bit. I have already hit activity so it's all good on that end of things-- I'm dealing with some heavy stuff right now and I want to give my brain a break :(

Gather around, hellions! You know what the city has been missing lately, aside from good taste, common sense and donuts? Why, disease and pestilence, of course! And no, the plagues totally don't count, c'mon. We're talking some good old fashioned HELL DISEASES.

An epidemic will break out, mysteriously, during a Reform Branch Meet & Greet party on Sunday, March 12, and sweep through town for the next IC week.

The epidemic is opt-in! You can comment here to receive a Your Very Own Random Disease. You get one reroll for free, and every subsequent reroll costs 5 hellbucks.

To request a specific disease for this event, you'll have to spend 25 hellbucks. Newbies with empty accounts are allowed to go into debt; diabolical loans never go wrong, trust us!

A disease can last up to a full IC week, and can be either cured through dubious medical/magical means, or pass on its own!

Now step right up, and get infected!

Hello. Hi. I'm Pana and I'm new here.

This horrible little monster is Joseph Kavinsky from The Raven Cycle, a teen romance series about prep school boys with literal demons. Kavinsky (never Joseph) is a Bulgarian mobster Jersey trash piece of shit whose hobbies include snorting coke, blowing up cars, and stealing your boyfriend. He's also a dream thief, which means he can take any object or creature out of his dreams and bring it into the real world. It's a gift he mostly uses to make copies of his Mitsubishi Evo or forgeries which he sells on the black market, but he's been known to create a magical dragon made of fire every once in a while for dramatic villainous purposes. As a main antagonist of the series, Kavinsky is a truly awful person, even if he ranks rather low on the scale of threats in Hell. He's the kind of evil you see every day on the streets, catcalling you from the driver's seat of a sportscar or slipping roofies in your drink at a party. If that's something you just don't feel like dealing with, mosey on over to here and opt out of interacting with him. You're probably safe from his creepiness, for the most part, as long as he doesn't develop an obsession with you. Generally, he's an amicable douchebag just out to have some fun.
